  • Art Works...

    The Library holds reproductions of popular art works but more recently original works by local artists have been made available for hire. Works are suitable for home or business purposes.

  • Book Lending...

    Most materials are issued for 4 weeks. Borrowers may request a "long loan" for 8 weeks. Books may be renewed by telephone, fax or email. The after hours returns slot by Peel Street and Bright Street entrances may be used for books only (not compact discs or cassettes - please). Charges will be incurred for Overdue or lost items. If a notice is sent the first reminder will note fines incurred, the second notice will include the replacement cost of the overdue item.

  • Rural Service & Community Libraries...

    Rural clients may borrow from H.B. Williams Memorial Library or their local community library. Loan period upon request is 8 weeks.
    Community Libraries are managed by volunteers and are generally located in schools of the same name. Most have email access.

  • Displays...

    A community noticeboard is available for public notices.
    An education services space is available for brochures, prospectus and application forms for tertiary and hobby classes.
    Community groups may promote issues by erecting a display or providing materials for staff to display. Bookings essential. Groups and individuals may also perform / demonstrate a craft etc. at the library.

  • Housebound Clients and Outreach Services...

    Books will be selected and delivered to housebound people on a permanent or temporary basis. An illness, broken limb etc. may constitute a temporary need for this service.
    Contact staff for confidential service.
    Books and Talking Books are also delivered regularly to Rest Homes & Pensioner Flats.

  • Membership...

    All residents of Gisborne and Wairoa districts are eligible to become library members.
    Visitors to the district may obtain a Visitors Card upon surrender of their hometown library card or some other acceptable identification.

    This is the catalogue. All stock is registered in this database. OPAC will tell you if a book is in the library, on loan, on the shelf or for reference only. All the instructions are right there on the screen - when in doubt read the screen, press F10 for HELP or ask a librarian.

    Any item on loan or being processed may be reserved at the issue desk or reference desk, by telephone or by fax. A small fee applies.

  • Talking Books...

    Stories on cassettes are available for print disabled clients. Other clients may borrow from this collection but are advised to consider more needy clients.
